The history of Fersfield, USAAF and RAF base in WW2
For many years, the history of Fersfield Airfield’s role in WW2 was little known to many. Used for special operations during WW2 by both the RAF and the USAAF, many aspects of the events that took place from here were strictly classified. Meanwhile this hidden away airfield was overlooked in publications and books due to not having had a bomb group present.
With this website we are aiming to provide a central point of information on the history of this important airbase. This is particularly needed as at time of writing, living memory of WW2 is becoming a rare commodity.
This site is the online home of the Fersfield airfield story: the history of RAF Fersfield (USAAF Station 554), photographs of what remains, the extraordinary operations that flew from here, and stories of the people and planes connected to this airbase.
