For eighty years, the story of Fersfield airfield has lived in fragments - an article here or there, a few pages in magazine, a memory there, a photograph in a shoebox. With this website we are aiming to provide a central point of information on the history of this important airbase.
This site is the online home of the Fersfield airfield story: the history of RAF Fersfield (USAAF Station 554), photographs of what remains, the extraordinary operations that flew from here, and stories of the people and planes connected to this airbase.
Every fact is sourced, but we appreciate your help. Each history page on this site lists exactly
where its information comes from. As time passes though sources can differ, so please reach out if you have a correction, or extra information
We respect the people who live and work here now. The old airfield is private land, business and working farms. Everything on this site is written to be enjoyed from the public rights of way.
